There is much talk about personal branding. You hear a word here and there, and then you hear it every where. You are thinking, why? How? Where?
Personal branding is not something that happened to come up this month. Personal branding, self-positioning and all individual branding by whatever name, was first introduced in the 1981 book: "Positioning: The Battle for your Mind", by Al Ries and Jack Trout. Personal branding has continued to gain in popularity as a tool to manage reputation online, especially though social networking sites like Facebook, Linkedin and Twitter (Copied from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Personal_branding)
Why? This is what I understand the reason why. If a stranger came up to you and said, you should eat this type of candybar, it is really good, you might shrug them off. But if a friend of yours said the same thing, you might listen. If people get to know you, see your photo, know what you believe, they may listen more to what you have to say. If you are an honest person, and people get to know this, they are more likely to purchase or sign up for what you are promoting. Better than a bland page, a splash page with your photo, or way to contact you. Make yourself known as a person, not just as someone promoting one more "Big Thing on the Net"

Where? Everywhere! Facebook, Twitter, Traffic exchanges, chat rooms, social networking sites, forums, so many places for people to get to know you.
Don't just say hello, buy this, or hello, join that. Talk with people. If you are just being yourself, people will ask you what you are promoting. What you are doing to make money online.
Now go and make those splash pages. Put them up in the exchanges, use the chat area, get to know other people. Make yourself known!

Personal branding is a key component to Internet marketing which is easy to achieve. Put your face or emblem with your name on everything. Let people know who you are and they will look for what you represent.

ReplyDeleteBranding isn't anything new... business's and individuals have been doing it for decades... it is however relatively new to the internet.
ReplyDeleteThere was a time when marketers WANTED to hide behind their screen! It was then people started getting smart and wanted to know who they were doing business with online.
Without branding, you will NOT succeed online.
